Hey there, and Happy Monday! Thanks so much for all of the kind wishes about my post about deciding to have knee surgery. It’s definitely a little scary but I’m ready to get things over with.
On Friday, I started to get the ball rolling with this procedure. Sometimes I think getting everything in order for a surgery is more stressful than actually having the surgery. Does anyone else feel that way? I made sure I could get time off at work, got my paperwork from HR, scheduled the surgery with my doctor’s office (4 weeks to go!) and started thinking of things I need to start getting, like crutches and possibly an ice machine.
One good thing I found out at my knee appointment on Thursday is that I’m not going to do any additional damage to my knee by exercising right now. It’s more about what I can tolerate pain-wise, which isn’t much but it’s still something. Light cycling doesn’t exacerbate anything so yesterday, I got out for a bit an enjoyed the beautiful weather in Charlotte!
I also met a friend for lunch at Cantina 1511. Margaritas and sunshine… does it get any better than that?
This weekend, I also realized that Fresh Market puts out whole cookies as free samples towards the end of the night. I guess they are the ones that are going to have to be tossed since they didn’t sell but whatever- they’re still free cookies! This has happened to me on two different occasions…. I need to shop there earlier so the employees don’t get suspicious
The only thing more awesome than a free cookie is realizing that your free cookie has chocolate in the middle.
Weekly Goals
Instead of making a New Year’s Resolution this year, I’m setting a goal each week instead. Last week I set a goal to increase my vegetable intake. I was pretty successful with this by making dishes that included vegetables with the protein. I’ve found that if I make a protein dish and cook vegetables on the side, I end up eating a lot less. Does that happen to anyone else?
This week I’m changing things up a bit. My goal is to organize our linen closet, specifically our sheets and towels. I know this has nothing to do with health and fitness, but it is bugging the crap out of me and has been on my to-do list for a while. We have way too many towels (even the ones back from our college days) and our sheets are to the point where we are basically balling them up and putting them in the linen closet. It’s just one of those things that needs to get done but I keep putting off. But not this week!! I’ll let you know how things go with that.
Before I say goodbye, I just wanted to ask that everyone send some positive thoughts to my grandmother. She is having surgery this AM in Virginia (I know, lots of surgeries going on in my family lately). I’m keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes okay. I’m trying to plan a trip to visit her sometime in the next few weeks. Thanks! <3
Have a great week!
