Hey guys! Happy Monday!
Exciting news- Iβm going back to work today!
I have exhausted all options of entertaining myself while out on leave so with the approval of my doctor and passing a physical with occ health at work, I am super happy to be getting back into my normal routine again. My PT gave me some great tips on how to tell if Iβm overdoing it and what to look for with swelling, and I feel confident physically that I am ready to get back into the swing of things. So wish me luck today!
In other news, I was able to film several vlogs these past few weeks and Iβm sharing my first one with you today!
Vlogs areβ¦ pretty interesting! I was petrified of recording myself. At my old job, some of the ladies used to make fun of me and say I talked like a valley girl, and I can definitely hear it when I re-watched what I recorded. What can I say? Iβm me, haha.
I recorded the vlog on my laptop and didnβt get very creative with editing. Now that Iβve been around the block a few times, I may try to use my DSLR next time!
My first video is to wrap up National Nutrition Month, which ends tomorrow (letβs not even discuss how March is already over). I get a lot of emails from people thinking about entering the field of nutrition and the 2 most common questions I get are:
Do you think I should become a registered dietitian, or can I practice nutrition without an RD?
and
What job options are there if I donβt want to become an RD?
So this video answers both of those questions as well as touches on the difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist.
I hope this video also illustrates the value in seeking a register dietitian for nutrition advice rather than a nutritionist. Registered dietitians go through a pretty extensive process to be able to become an RD, and their education, internship experience, required continuing education, and professional networks definitely make them the most qualified to give evidence-based nutrition advice.
My next vlog is about my thoughts on diet soda, and I will hopefully be publishing that sometime in the next few weeks!
Have a great week!
Have you ever made a vlog before?
Did you do anything fun this weekend?
Good luck with work! Loved the vlog too- I am too nervous to do one haha!
You should do one!! I posted my first video last week, and while it was just my voice, it wasn’t that bad! ;)
I liked your vlog!
Thanks! It was funny to record it :)
Good luck being back to work today! I hope it goes smoothly! I remember after I had surgery I was pretty much ready to get back to work- I got bored really fast!
Thanks! Yes, I got bored so quickly.
It’s so fun to be able to hear others’ voices! Love the vlog :)
It was weird to hear my own voice :)
GREAT JOB with the vlog! I love vlogs!
I really want to get back into creating them, but I need to buy more RAM for my computer. Editing takes foreverrrrr for me right now. Just getting imovie to load up takes a couple of minutes!
YAY for getting back to work. I’m sure getting back into your routine feels great!
Thanks, Kristina! I’m going to start backing up all of my stuff onto an external hard drive and not keeping so many things on my laptop (esp things that I won’t need right at my fingertips)
Nicely done with the vlog! I doubt if I will ever do one–mostly because I hate how I sound. Well, I say that but maybe one day. And I think that it is so important to establish the differences in professions. As a CPT, there are things that I am happy to do for clients, but you better believe that I am NOT certified to do other things!
I bet you sound wonderful! I think it is important to understand your scope of practice based off of your certification/registration. Even within dietetics, I know there are certain areas where I’m really not as experienced, so I happily refer those people to RDs that work in those specialties.
