Hello, my friends and happy Thursday to us all. Some random thoughts from this week… (P.S. I hope these video links works… we’ll see?)
Dancing with the Stars: I would be embarrassed to admit that I watch this show but if you read here at all then you know DWTS is just the tip of my reality TV iceberg. At least I DVR the show, which saves me about 40 minutes of my life every week (fast forwarding through the fluff). But anyway, this past week was the ‘most memorable year’ dance and I completely bawled my eyes out. My favorite segment was Robert Herjavec’s (he’s from shark tank). Please watch this and let me know if you also cry:
Surgery Stuff: I have my 5 week post-op update coming tomorrow but in the meantime, cold therapy unit = life changing.
My new favorite song: would have never thought of these two doing a duet together but they sound great!
Dog update: Because I don’t think I talk about my furry fam enough here.
So I decided on Tuesday that it would be a good idea to take both of my dogs to the vet for a check-up on my day off. By myself. Right after my physical therapy appointment. Not my smartest idea but we survived.
Beamer is normally cool as a cucumber but something about the vet makes him completely flip out. When I was filling out their paperwork at the counter in the exam room, he decided to turn into a monkey and jumped onto a chair and then onto the exam table and then into my face. About 10 times. Not embarrassing at all.
But anyway, I got some sad news about Lily on Tuesday. I have noticed lately that she has trouble seeing in the dark. She regularly walks off of the sidewalk and runs into things when she’s walking at night. This became concerning the other week when there was a moving truck backed up onto the sidewalk and she walked right into it. I found out on Tuesday that she has cataracts in both of her eyes that are affecting her vision.
For now, since she’s seeing OK during the day, I’m just going to keep an eye on her. There’s an option to have them surgically removed by a pet ophthalmologist later on down the road but after talking to the vet about it, I don’t think surgery is something I would consider for this.

It’s really hard to know how far to go with treating a pet’s health problems as they age. I want Lily to be happy and have a good quality of life, but I also know I need to be realistic about her aging. She has been my little companion for an entire decade of my life and it makes me sad to think about her getting older.
Thanks Amanda for hosting the link-up today!
Do you have an aging pet?
Did anyone else watch DWTS this week? Who are you pulling for? I like Robert and Rumor.
Are you a country fan?
I can’t stand to see my pets get older either :( My dog is 12 right now, and while she still acts completely like a puppy and has no health issues whatsoever, I’m kind of just waiting for the shoe to drop… you know? Especially since it all seems to happen so quickly. But I know what you mean about having a hard time deciding what you should and shouldn’t do for them as they age… it’s never an easy thing.
Exactly <3
My dog Champ didn’t age and then aged very very quickly. But regardless, it is rough to watch them struggle. Just look at it as an opportunity to get more time with time to help them out!
That’s a great point!
I DVR dancing with the stars too – and had my own little sob-fest yesterday afternoon when I was watching. My husband got home right when I was finishing the final performance (the military story) and was like, “are you ok?” Oh, and Robert’s tribute was my favorite… I think he is just a class act. Love him!
I am sorry to hear that Lily has cataracts. Hopefully she is able to cope for now and still have a good quality of life. Pets are family, so as they get older it’s difficult not to think about how age is going to affect them. Plus, their life and medical issues are often in the hands of their owners, which can be tough. Just keep giving her love – I’m sure it helps her everyday!
I am surprised at how much I like Robert. I kind of thought he would be cocky and/or a jerk, but he is very lovable! He is one of my favorites.
Oh Keith Urban… how I love him! I have seen him in concert and he easily puts on one of the BEST performances!!
I completely agree! He is such a talented musician.
