I didn’t have a post planned for today… I’m just sitting in my living room thinking about the events that happened this morning at Smith Mountain Lake. Two young lives were taken during a live news broadcast. This story hits close to home for me because WDBJ7, the news station, is located in my hometown. One of the victims was a fellow VT Hokie. And the story of someone young and vivacious going about their daily life and suddenly taken from here is a story that is sadly familiar.
I could sit here and write about racism or gun control or mental illness. But instead I’d rather just say that life is short, and we shouldn’t take it for granted. We should tell the people close to us that we love them. And we should live our lives with purpose, treat people with kindness and try to make this world better.
I second everything you wrote.
A co-worker showed me the video filmed by the shooter. I’m not sure why I agreed to watch it as I normally avoid those type of things. It was truly chilling and just so so sad.
This story has been replaying in my head since I heard the news. I am located in California and it was on every channel. It’s extremely sad and disheartening to see this violence literally everywhere and anywhere. So scary. Bless us all.
This was such a sad story. It breaks my heart.
