Hey Guys! Happy Monday!
This past week has been full of more moving stuff and unpacking!
My moving journey actually started the Wednesday before last when I picked up the keys to our new apartment. I decided to move all of my kitchen and closet stuff prior to the big move. I always think it feels productive to get those things out of the way and unpacked, and then you can recycle the boxes for the rest of the move.
My original plan was to rent a Uhaul and load and unload everything with the help of friends. But after unloading 2 car loads of boxes and carrying a dresser up to the 2nd floor apartment during the โpre-moveโ, I didnโt think I could handle unloading a truck in Charlotte. So I stuck with my plan for loading up the truck out at my house but hired movers to unload in Charlotte.
I am so thankful for friends who helped me because I suck at moving! They helped load everything up in no time and even gathered extra items to get as much stuff on the truck as possible. I drove the truck to Charlotte on Friday evening so that I could avoid a Saturday AM commute and sleep in.
Saturday started bright and earlyโฆ you havenโt lived life until you drive a 17โ Uhaul through downtown Charlotte! The movers were great. They arrived early and unloaded the truck in less than an hour. Hiring them was the best decision ever! My mom and John came down as well. My mom organized my closet and John put the feet on my couch. Again, so thankful for all of the help!
I had to be out of my rental house by the end of May, so decided I would spend a week or so unpacking in Charlotte and deal with cleaning out my old house once I was settled. But then my old landlord called me and said he had a tenant who needed to move in ASAP, and offered to refund part of my May rent if I could move out soon (he already knew I had physically moved and mostly just needed to clean). I agreed to go ahead and finish up at the house, but it made last week kind of crazy! I worked full time, went to the house to clean and pack up my car after work for 2 hours every night, and then unloaded everything in Charlotte and continued to unpack. I was tired
But thankfully I turned in my keys on Thursday and am officially a resident of Charlotte again!! I was a little sad to say goodbye to my little yellow house but I know there will be many good times in our new apartment.
Something great about this move is that I really took the time to go through all of my belongings and purge things that I no longer needed. My house had great storage but my new apartment doesnโt, so it was a great opportunity to clean things out and donate items that could serve others a better purpose.
Besides feeling completely exhausted, everything in the new apartment is going well so far. Iโm still working on unpacking my room but things are coming together nicely. I also love having a roommate. My ex was nice enough to keep Lily during all of the moving, but I picked her up on Saturday and things feel more complete now that sheโs here.
Canโt wait to give you guys a tour once everything is unpacked!
Are you a minimalist or do you like to hold on to a lot of things?
Do your pets adjust well to moves? Lily freaks out when she sees you loading up the car.
What did you do this weekend?
Yay, how exciting that you’re getting all settled in! Is your front door grey? I feel like I have the same door lol. I really think the people who own your building are the same people who own my building!
It’s a taupe-ish grey color. Now I need to see pictures of your kitchen!! I remember commenting on a photo when you moved about how I loved it. I must have really loved it to go find a similar one, haha!
Congrats on the move- enjoy the new beginnings of being back in Charlotte! Lily looks so at home already :)
Ha she is! She is being so spoiled by my roommate.
Moving can be exhausting! I never realized how much stuff I own until I moved… it would have been so much easier if I were a minimalist! Congrats on the new place! xo Kelly http://lazygirlsguidetofitnessandbeauty.blogspot.com/
Thank you! Yes, you never have ANY idea how much stuff you have until it’s time to move it! I feel a lot better purging items. I think I’ll also be more conscious of what I’m buying from now on :)
