Hope you had a good weekend On Saturday night, B let me be his hot date to the 2016 Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Hope Gala. This is an annual fundraising event to raise money and awareness for Type 1 Diabetes research.
Even though we were invited to the event through B’s work, diabetes research is something that means a lot to me. I have had to provide diabetes nutrition education to many patients who have just received a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis, and I have seen how devastating that can be. So I was more than happy to spend an evening at an event raising resources for continued research for this horrible disease.
The Hope Gala was held at the Westin Hotel in downtown Charlotte. We started out the night by browsing the items at the silent auction. Each item told a story about someone who had Type 1 diabetes. So many people donated wonderful things.
B ended up winning a Tumi work bag!
After enjoying some drinks and browsing the silent auction, we headed into the ballroom for dinner and the program.
The night was honoring Ken and Rita Church. Rita Church was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in her 50s. She and her husband shared the experience of what it was like to be diagnosed with this disease and how it affected their lives and their family.
Rita Church happens to be the mom of Eric Church, the country singer! Eric Church donated a package for the silent auction that included a signed guitar, concert tickets, backstage passes and much more!
Eric Church ended up surprising everyone and made an appearance at the event! He spoke a little bit about his foundation, Chief Cares, and announced that the foundation would be donating $1 MILLION dollars to JDRF!!! I have always loved Eric Church’s music but now I am even more of a fan.
We had a great evening and over $2 million dollars was raised for Type 1 Diabetes research.
Oh, and as a side note: I ended up going with the black Adrianna Papell gown for the event. It was very comfortable and I think I made a good choice. I also had to get a photo with Lily. I don’t think she cared that I was dressed up
How was your weekend?
Anything fun on the agenda for this week?
